Our History

The following is the development history of the NOAH Technology from co-founder Jim Hays.

The Beginning - The Development of Restructured Water

High Mineral Content Water in Japan

The first recorded work in restructuring water started in Russia 90+ years ago when they developed an electronically adjusted water product to increase agricultural production. Their research was furthered by a Japanese doctor who developed the water ionizer machine following World War 2. His research into longevity took him to all the countries where people routinely live over 100 years, are very active, and work daily at an advanced age.

The common element in these high altitude regions appeared to be the quality of the water. They discovered the water in these regions was very high in minerals due to the grinding of glaciers on the limestone in the area. When limestone is ground down by glaciers, it produces a high nutrient product refereed to as glacier milk.

This high mineral water was used in every facet of their daily lives: drinking, cooking, and bathing. It was also used in their agriculture for the livestock and for growing their produce. Scientists realized that the water held the key to good health and longevity.

They took this research back to Japan and developed the water ionizer machine, which is used in many households and hospitals in Japan and across Asia. The Japanese government health department encourages the use of the water ionizers, and over one million units are purchased a year. In North America people are only recently becoming aware of the health benefits of ionized water.

Personal Health

Ionized WaterI was introduced to the ionizer machines in 1998 by friends who repeatedly served me large glasses of water which I immediately consumed. I was able to drink quite a number of glasses when I realized that this was unusual. Normally anything over a single glass of water is excessive and produces a “full” feeling.

After starting the regimen with “ionized” water, I discovered people coming into a health food store owned by a friend, buying something in a white 32 oz. jug. They were buying 1-3 jugs of this product and I asked, “what kind of health scam is this?" He replied “its minerals Jim, just minerals.” I bought a jug of these “colloidal minerals” and started taking them together with the ionized water. Within two weeks, many of my physical complaints started to disappear and I have good health and mobility today thanks to these products. Thus the first hybrid (two-part) system was born.

I started to imagine what could be done with the agricultural markets using this combination of ionized water and colloidal minerals that had been so helpful to me with my physical complaints.

First I discovered with a few calculations that the standard ionizers were too expensive for the Agricultural market. The unit required to ionize feed water for 500 cows was priced at well over $200,000 actual wholesale cost. This product adjusted the pH as well as ionizing the water. We discovered a product that did not adjust the pH but it did ionize the water. This product was less expensive than the Japanese unit and appeared to still offer many of the advantages.

We shortly also discovered a colloidal mineral product that had success in the dairy industry in Canada. My background included electronic applications and systems design for the Navy, and thereafter in Silicon Valley for over ten years. So we undertook the research and design of water ionizer systems for ourselves to determine the effectiveness in both community and agricultural applications.

Livestock Waste Management - University Visit

Our research was extensive, and based on our early results we were invited to visit the universities in the Province of Ontario, Canada. Here we shared ideas with the teaching groups and agriculture associations on the subject of providing better solutions for managing agricultural waste. Our research was well received, and further research into different areas was encouraged.

Hybrid Systems

TomatoesCurrently all the water remediation systems are hybrid systems that contain two or more working components. For the agriculture crop systems, these systems contain a method of restructuring the water (reducing the molecular count from 13-15 H2O molecules to 5-6 molecules). To this we add a colloidal mineral that has 28 ingredients including all 67 trace minerals.

These systems include a mixing tank where the restructured water is combined with the colloidal minerals to produce a mineral rich, polarized product, which enters the soil rapidly and remains in the rootstock area for a prolonged time.

Because the soil has a negative polarity and the mineralized water is positively charged, the colloidal mineral water clings to the soil particles allowing an extended ideal growing period for crops. This allows the operator to actually turn off the irrigation system and experience the large reduction in water, energy and chemical use.

Livestock Applications

Livestock and Mineral WaterIn livestock applications, the restructured water and mineral product enters the digestive tract and because it is finer, is able to penetrate the soft tissue of the animal aiding in the digestion of food products in the digestive tract. This also helps in the development of beneficial bacteria that result in more complete digestion, less gas, faster weight gain and much lower odour in the barn and lagoon areas. All of which make for a healthier herd and lowers medical costs across the board.

Community Application

We have provided a 42 unit housing development in an Eugen, Oregon suburb with solutions for both their drinking water and existing failed sewage system. Through this application we further developed our product applications. Given that we are a small company, we chose to use multiple components for each application. For the community housing project, we placed a water-restructuring product in the input for a fresh water supply to the community.

We then placed a HIOS (high impact oxygen system) on the sewage water going out of the community to the influent (input pipe) at the on-site sewage plant. The result:

  1. The input fresh water, which contained iron bacteria and the resulting pink staining, was of noticeably improved quality.
  2. The failed existing sewage system, under threat of being shut down, was improved to working order using the NOAH technology.
  3. There was no odour and no residue in the treated sewage water that went out to the drain field. Instead of solid waste and undissolved fats, we were releasing a high oxygen “healing” product loaded with beneficial bacteria to the environment.

Garbage Company Application

Portland Waste Treatment PlantI was then referred by an environmental engineer to a garbage company in a Portland Oregon suburb that was denied use of the city sewage plant. They feared that the environmental balance of the garbage system would be threatened by the residue of the wash water from the household garbage deposited on the tipping floor at the garbage plant. Note: They may have had a point as the residue in a few days would turn into a gelatinous solid that could support considerable weight. I was actually unable to get a water sample from the existing tank.

Due to the success we had with the ability of the HIOS system to remediate the solids in the housing development experience, we felt we had a chance to design a system that would work for the garbage company application.

The first thing we had the company do was to use power washers and replace the garden hoses used to rinse the floor of the residue that was too small to be handled by the front loader. This new reduction in water use allowed the existing 1,000 gallon on-site tanks to be used in the system.

The result:
The combined HIOS system and the water restructuring system built into the system enabled it to be used in a closed loop manner using the same discharge water daily to rinse the tipping floor residue. Their comments and that of the EPA contractor who visited the site were “this will become the standard of the industry”. Another benefit enjoyed by the staff in the nearby buildings, and by residences in the surrounding neighborhood, was that there was significantly less odor coming from the facility.

Dairy Lagoon Test

We then performed a test on a dairy lagoon in Bellingham Washington. This was a 2-3 million gallon lagoon that had a four foot solid cap on top of the lagoon.

Here we placed a Hybrid. Two-part, system on the input feed water and a HIOS system on site at the lagoon. Pictures were taken at the site showing the results.

From a 4’ (foot) manure cap to blue odorless water in 2-3 weeks.

Drip System used in Keizer Oregon


We were introduced to a horticultural farm in Keizer, Oregon. The first season results were as follows:

  • Tomatoes went from 15 lbs per vine to 25 lbs per vine and could be picked ripe, as shelf life had increased to that of five times their normal shelf life.
  • Strawberries now had a 4 day shelf life vs. a previous one day shelf life. The berries contained no hollow or white spots in the center.
  • Cantaloupe as large as 18 lbs.
  • Crop production per acre increased considerably.
  • Water use went down by 60%+
  • Onions extra large size (see photos). The four outer onions were watered with regular water. The large center onion was watered with the NOAH ionized colloidal water - five times larger on average than the small onions - These large onions were sold at specialty markets and had a shelf life of several months.
  • Tree fruit seemed larger and had better brix readings.
  • Herbicide and pesticide use was cut by 50%
  • Pest damage was lower than usual.
